Feedback On the first Transition Thrive Course

19th - 20th November 2011

What went well?

“The balance of inner and outer, when it is all intellectual and rational I feel screwed up inside (but I don’t) so the balance has been good” “Appreciate facilitators, good learning and attention”

“Great to see everyone and how we are all facing similar problems, it’s energising”

“Where people’s passion comes it’s  inspirational”

“Great practical ideas”

“How to facilitate differ ways of sharing”

“Learning that transition is a process  and not an end game”

“Enjoyed the process based and not information based”

“If our TI had been quieter and slower then we would be thriving now and not collapsed”

“Learned how to explain the connection between inner and outer Transition, and also learned that we have to work well as a group to get anything done”  

What’s been difficult?

“Wanted more down to earth language”

“Appreciative Inquiry  information was not clear. It needs to be reframed with the objective of what we are doing.”

“I have been outside my comfort zone for some of the course.”

“What about all the difficult stuff? I felt we needed a place to park it and have a constructive whinge. Maybe we could have a  dust bin the in middle of the room and we could ‘put’ all the things that we are finding difficult into it.”

“The inner is so important and it’s really hard to take inner transition in and how to do it, and how to do it well.” 

What would be different?

“The framing needs to be linked to how to get to the practical stuff from the inner”

“I needed more space to focus on my particular project”

“It needed a recap the original training (Transition Launch)”

“We should have been able to exchange emails during the booking process so as to begin to get to know each other.”

“It need more Pre course communication; I wanted to hear at sign on and what have others done, what’s successful, and what’s a problem, and what do you want help with?”

What have I learned?

“I learned how to get more diversity into our groups, and how can we go on getting along”

“Great to hear of other groups who have collapsed and gone through difficulties”

“I got loads of info about some of our next stage and in particular about social enterprise.”

“Connection, ideas”

“Learned from how the facilitators held the group, (during periods of strong opinions being expressed and conflict arising.)”

“I learned from how the facilitators adapted.”

“I learned why transition is so successful;  because it concentrates on the process instead of telling people what to do.”

“I valued getting a sense of the bigger picture of how a transition business can fit into the wider economy, and the explanation of the business model of a social enterprise.”

“I have learned that sustainability isn’t just a concept but it applies personally, I have learned to conserve my energy.”

“We are impatient with the scale of change.”

“I have learned the importance of all the different energies in a group and learned to value them all. And how we can organise ourselves to use the best of what we do (Appreciative Inquiry).”
