One Year in Transition: open for 2013 entry

One Year in Transition is now open to applicants starting in September of this year (2013). Our first meet-up is 23 to 29 September at Sharpham, outside Totnes in Devon. As well as workshops that land you in Transition, and introduce you to storytelling and being in Nature, you design the shape of your own learning and the group designs the shape of the year.

“To me it’s almost like magic”: The NE Seattle Tool Library opens for business

Susan Gregory (NE Seattle Tool Library), Pastor Lorraine Watson (North Seattle Friends Church), Signe Gilson (Cleanscapes), Dai Gorman (Lease Crutcher Lewis), Richard Conlin (Seattle City Council), and Tim Croll (Seattle Public Utilities) at the opening day for the Library.

Here is a wonderful story from Seattle.  I am indebted to Susan Gregory and Leo Brodie for their time in telling me about it.  In North Ravenna, NE Seattle, a rather exciting project has emerged from Sustainable NE Seattle, the local Transition initiative.  Inspired by a similar project in West Seattle, the NE Seattle Tool Library opened to the public last month, and already has over 1,100 tools available for local people to hire.

Transition Network joins charities and co-ops to urge government not to pull the plug on large community energy projects

Lewes Community Solar Power station promo leaflet

Organisations with more than 12 million members today urged the Government to fulfil its commitments and avoid pulling the plug on larger community owned energy schemes. The membership organisations, which include: The Co-operative; the National Trust; Friends of the Earth; and Transition Network amongst others, believe that the Energy Bill currently before Parliament threatens to prevent community owned energy from meeting its full potential.

Its official, the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) loves Transition towns. What does that mean? We don’t know.
