Born and raised in a tiny, green nook of New York State-- Castle Creek. Spent my high school years in a rather "modern" Christian commune in Valley Forge, PA. For my college years, I attended Eastern University, St. Davids, PA; lived mostly in Philadelphia in a boarding house for international students; spent a semester in Irian Jaya, Indonesia; and another semester in Hong Kong.
In 1987 I was a budding environmental journalist being schooled in cryospheric and climate sciences by a mentor at Columbia Geophysical. By 2002, I became involved in the UN Earth Charter Initiative and eventually founded the first Post Carbon Institute Relocalization chapter in Pennsylvania.
