Faith: reasons to be cheerful

I'm not what people generally know as a "man of faith", and sometimes the religious responses to the crises of the world have left me exasperated and despairing.

LIFE stands for Local Initiative for Faith and the Environment. LIFE has been created as a bridge between faith-based networks and environmental action in the Borough of Lambeth in London.  The hope is that this bridge serves to bring people together around two of the most vital pillars of peace-building today: climate change and inter-faith dialogue.

"Redeeming our Communities": any transitioners been working with them?

There's an interesting organisation called Redeeming Our Commuties - they facilitate a coordinated approach involving Churches, police and local authorities to produce more cohesive communities.

Looks like a well thought through approach and showing success in many cities around the UK.

Has anyone had experience with working with them? Please respond on this thread if you have and perhaps we can share that experience and work more closely with them.

Thanks. Ben.

Low Cost Retreats

in

Quaker Voluntary Action (QVA) runs a successful and energising programme of Working Retreats across the UK and abroad where groups undertake practical projects and spend some time in spiritual reflection. Sustainability is their focus for 2011 and they’re looking to team up with Transition initiatives to run collaborative pilot projects. Costs are kept very low and QVA provides project administration, facilitation and publicity. For further info and to discuss possibilities, contact Jasmine Piercy, jasmine@qva.org.uk or 07910 434941.

Kingston on Thames Transition are holding their first Interfaith Forum event. The event promises to provide an opportunity for people from different perspectives to meet and to talk about a subject of fundamental importance to us all - our environment . Another aim is to discuss what might motivate us to make more sustainable choices in life - such as ways to reduce our carbon footprint. A theme running through the seminar could be: - connecting people in our local community and - connecting beliefs to action.
