Why be happy when you could be challenged!

What do you read a social reporting blog for?  Entertainment? Yes. Information? Yes.  Inspiration? Oh definitely.   A  proper all round view of the many facets of Transition, the people in Transition, their friends, colleagues and fellow journeyers?

To fly or not to fly isn't the question.

To fly or not to fly is not a question that vexes me very much these days. A while back I did adopt the “I don't fly!” badge, an essential part of the credibility kit for the noble climate change warrior, but lately I've come to realise that especially in my case, it does as much good for the cause as does wearing sandals in winter.

When optimism’s just not enough – it's time for palliative care

When I was 10 years old I actually wanted to be an astronaut. In my early teens life as a rock star beckoned briefly, before I fell into a good job (easy then) and a regular income. I had no plans for my life and just went with the flow, buoyant with optimism, meandering through fun and friendships, cars and careers, parties and parenthood.

Bringing the harvest in

Where was the sun? It's not been a great year for us gardeners. It never really became summer here in Wales. It felt like we were stuck in spring and a cold one at that.

Watching the Arctic melt

I’ve travelled to the Arctic with Greenpeace, joining our ship – the Arctic Sunrise – to bear witness to the sea ice minimum; the moment each year when sea ice extent in the Arctic is at its lowest and we can measure how much we have lost, year on year.
