Cambridge

Anna comes to collect me in her street van, hired for a couple of hours, to do lots of collecting of large items not easily transportable on a bike and trailer. Street cars are a new thing to Cambridge and Anna is very excited about the idea, she doesn’t own a car and the last time she had to pick up something heavy she was afraid it would buckle her trailer.

I have a very lazy day; I feel quite spoiled, a holiday in the midst of the walk. Cambridge is a beautiful place to be staying, and my diary is pleasantly filled with small engagements.

 The Streets of Cambridge are Paved with Flowers

Literally! I am tickled by the diverse brass flowers that are embedded in to the pavements as I saunter along the ancient streets of this university town.

 Hills Are a Powerful Waste of Sky

...or so say the folk of Norfolk, coming as they do from the Fens, and my walk into Cambridge skirting the edge, accompanied by Marion Leeper, transition storyteller, and my host for the next few days, is all about the wide expanse of open landscape, made bright by fields of rape.
