In my day job I'm a "techie" - I work at Loughborough University in a number of departments programming and doing network/database related stuff.  During the week I live in a flat in Loughborough, but I regularly visit Stratford-upon-Avon where my best beloved lives and works (hence the reason why I'm involved in both Loughborough and Stratford's Transition movements).

Dear fellow Transitioners

Learn about Cuba's record on sustainable development in Cuba

You may already be aware of Cuba’s impressive record on sustainable development and communal urban allotments. You might be interested to visit the country to see this for yourself. There is a specialist environmental study tour to Cuba this November – see http://www.cuba-solidarity.org.uk/tours/tour.asp?tourid=4

The Jewel in the Centre of England (Day 68) June 4th

The green hills and valleys of the Peak District just have to be one of the most beautiful sights I have ever seen; it makes it very possible to imagine that all England once was covered in green like this. With the June sun pouring down on me and the sky a brilliant blue you could be forgiven for mistaking it for South America.

We are trying to set up a Transition group in Epsom & Ewell, but so far have not had a lot of success with it.  There are about 5 people interested, and a few others on the periphery but not a lot more than that.  No plans or activities yet.    We do have a small Energy group in the borough, but not very active.  It arranges public talks on a range of topics every 6 weeks or so, and does public stalls from time to time.
