Project Aim

To bring together local food producers to explore the potential of creating a Local Food Buying Club

Encouraging people to:

support their local farmers by eating local foods

reduce transportation impact and fuel dependency

create a market for locally produced canned and preserved foods which will develop farm based economy

Further details

The concept of a Local Food Buying Club started as a educational project submission as part of a Sustainable Local Foods Program (through St. Lawrence College, Ontario (http://www.sl.on.ca/parttime/OnlineCredit-SustFood.htm ) .  A YouTube Video will be uploaded on April 18th, 2010 as an introduction to this new food distribution option for the area.   This video will kick off the creation of a Transition Teeswater YouTube Channel to which there will be a number of videos uploaded that illustrate sustainability in action in the South Bruce County region of Ontario.

This project is in its infancy at the moment but we invite all to watch it grow.

Inspiration

The Sustainable Local Food program through St. Lawrence College

Outcomes so far

We have interviewed 3 area producers in discussions around the potential for a Local Food Buying Club and have also interviewed a successful Local Food Buying Club creator/manager to learn about the hurdles experienced and how they were addressed.
