The Heartwell Housing Cooperative
Project Aim
The Heartwell Housing Co-operative is an intentional community group in South Devon. We've been working together for a number of years to create and support evolving projects based on the principles of ecological and cultural sustainability, diversity, compassion and mindfulness. We believe that by co-creating community that is deeply connected to heart and the Earth, we are directly manifesting positive social change in the world.
We are working on buying property- dwelling places, workshops and land in the Totnes area, where we will house and provide resources for the members of our group. We aspire to provide secure and affordable housing for our members, be working on the land with plants and animals, celebrating the cycles of nature, sharing creativity and allowing space and time for just being. We will eco-renovate buildings and land, so that we can live in low impact way and become a hub for local sustainability and creativity, inviting people in to become inspired.
We are committed to using consensus decision making and non-violent communication tools, seeking to maintain energy, equality and diversity within the group, in the most open and effective way.
We are also committed to developing the possibilities of beneficial relationships now and in the future, to enhance the well-being of our members and the wider community, our collective ability to live sustainably within our Bioregion and work together for positive social change.
Further details
We are a registered housing co-operative and work with co-operative principles
We own a travellers site near Littlehempston where some of our members live-
We purchased the 1 acre Travellers' site at Littlehempston, 4 miles from Totnes using Loanstock sourced from our membership (during the purchase process we had invaluable business advice and support from Somerset Co-operative Services, provided free through the Co-operative Enterprise Hub). This land has permission for caravans and suited the housing needs of some our members. The site is in need of building work and expansion, which we hope to complete over the next two years.
We would consider wwoofers or other volunteers to come and visit us, our website is www.heartwellcoop.net
We are also currently working on buying other property in the local area, and setting up a co-operative business.
