Floating City is a climate project that evolves, lives, and spreads knowledge and practical experience about real solutions to the climate problems.
We believe that this new wave of environmental and social awareness means new possibilities and that it will be a springboard and a fountain of inspiration for the future of our society.
We experiment with new ways of living and producing in a sustainable way drawing on the experiences, ideas and examples of activists and friends all over the globe, while challenging the current static and narrow-minded thinking in urban development and architecture.
We build crazy and spectacular floats, Arks, with newly developed and inspiring methods of building. With our revolutionary technical methods mixing fiber enforced concrete and recycled materials we create a new architecture, thus creating an alternative to the glass-concrete-polished steel dogma dominating skylines - and all of this is done with our own hands!
The plan is to turn a huge area in Copenhagen's South Harbor into our Wharf; a free zone for testing ideas from hyper advanced green technologies and compost toilets to non-hierarchical ideas of social and cultural interaction. We will be working with sustainablitity - created through communal living and a completely different way of consuming. Through hundreds of workshops, debates, happenings and other arrangements we intend to involve, engage and inspire the residents of the city and visitors from all over.
Throughout 2010 we build, socialise and create our way to meet the enormous challenge: Living sustainable, self-reliant and socially equal and traveling on water in a living, working and experimenting Climate Armada.
We want to make it crystal clear that the struggle for our climate and the struggle for freedom are closely interlinked! So come to Copenhagen now and join the environmental and socially sustainable production of Arks. Now COP15 is over, we will build so as to float in a working, living Climate Armada, that can travel beyond the borders of Copenhagen and Denmark and broadcast information and practical examples about socially and environmentally sustainable living beyond the mental borders of conformist thinking.
Come to the Floating City, learn how to build, weld, angle-grind, live communally, sail, and much more besides - come and build on a dream!
