Ealing Transition Initiative Sustainable Food Group
Project Aim
We are looking into all options to get more local food onto the plates of more local people.
Further details
Local Food Distribution Group Our aims are simple:
* to increase the availability of locally grown food, throughout shops, cafes, restaurants and schools.
* to support existing growers and producers; within Ealing and beyond to our neighboring farming community in the Colne Valley.
* to develop or support the development of infrastructure that will bring local produce to Ealing residents. Since our inception we have researched 3 different local food distribution models: box schemes, Country Markets and CSA's (Community Supported Agriculture).
In the process, we have forged links with other local food based projects such as West Ealing Neighbours Abundance project, the Grow project and Colne Valley Foods. In an effort to broaden the availability of locally grown food within Ealing, a number of options are currently being considered:
* A box scheme - fresh locally grown fruit and vegetables delivered to your home.
* An Organic Buying Group - a group of people who regularly get together and order organic food in bulk, direct from farmers or suppliers, enabling access to good quality food at a more affordable price.
* A mobile market stall or van - offering a rang of local produce including fruit & vegetables, meat and dairy products on a weekly basis, for example close to your place of work
* A community owned shop - in which members of the community own a share in the shop, The Peoples Supermarket is an example of how this could work, see http://www.thepeoplessupermarket.org/
