Description

Aims:

We have embarked on a project to build bug hotels with local primary schools. Collection of building material started (wooden pallets, cardboard tubes etc) and a number of schools were approached to participate, all of which were interested and have signed up. The first school to receive its bug hotel has been Folkestone Academy Primary (photo to follow). It is a splendid structure and fits well with the school's soon to be launched Gardening Club. A next phase will be to plant bug friendly plants near the hotel (what more could a bug want?).

It is good fun, a real community project, a good early way to raise our profile, has already helped spread the word to neighbouring Folkestone and is good for the bugs as well!

Inspiration:

One of our participants had read about them; she is also a local school governor, so made the link about involving schools.

Obstacles, and how we overcame them:

None encountered as yet.

What is a Bug Hotel?

Well I just Googled
and was smiling through evening prayers,
till I crashed out in the bed.
