Description
Aims:
Barracks Lane Community Garden is a community-run green space off the Cowley Road in Cowley/East Oxford. The space the garden now inhabits has been transformed by local effort from a toxic waste-filled old garage site into a beautiful garden open to all to visit and enjoy.
Further information:
Barracks Lane Community Garden runs a range and events and workshops throughout the year. These range from seed and plant swaps, family activities using recycled materials, and an annual harvest festival and bonfire night celebration. Community groups such as Kangaroo Playgroup and Oxford Permaculture also run activities in the garden that are open to all to join. To find out about upcoming events and activities, visit: http://www.barrackslanegarden.org.uk/events.php
Garden features include:
• Spacious grounds, raised beds and a sand-pit
• Compost toilet (disabled-access)
• Small lawn / orchard with fire-pit
• New timber eco-cabin
• Living roof on kitchen space
• Outdoor tandoori oven
• No parking: walk, bus or cycle
• Organised by us, the community!
The garden is also a very popular venue for locals to hold children’s parties, meetings, workshops, and other community events. For a donation, which helps with the upkeep and running costs of the garden, you can book the garden for private events and workshops. To find out more about booking the garden for your event, visit our website at www.barrackslanegarden.org.uk/bookings.htm.
Visiting
The garden is open 11am - 5pm every weekend from early Spring to the end of October (subject to the availability of volunteers).
