Ashburton Community Garden
Project Aim
For a group of people to grow their own food together.
Further details
Ashburton Futures had people who wanted to grow food and were having a meeting about it.
I spent the best part of the day before the meeting talking to local people to see if a place could be found. Sands School was the one we decided to go with and that’s where we are now, they are happy because we keep the vegetable plot tidy and the school also get’s fresh veg from the garden albeit a small amount at the moment.
We are hoping that as thing progress the pupils will take more interest and join in as well.

Links and Partnerships
We have joined the Federation of City Farms and Community Gardens which is free for the first year. They have a vast bank of information and we will have asked them for help in our next project which is setting up allotments in the town as there is a great need here.
Sources of Funding
Just a £70 donation from a group which had disbanded and had this amount left in their bank which gave us a start. The rest has all come from the gardeners when needed.
