About Steve Chase

Steve Chase is the director of the Advocacy for Social Justice and Sustainability training program in the Department of Environmental Studies at Antioch University New England. As an activist academic, Steve teaches graduate level classes in Leadership for Change; Political Economy and Sustainability; Organizing for Social Change; Diversity, Justice, and Inclusion; and Social Entrepreneurship and Nonprofit Organizations. He is also currently working on a book project tentatively titled The Politics of Relocalization: An Assessment of the Transition Movement's Analysis, Vision, and Strategy.

Steve is also a co-founder of the Transition Keene Task Force in Keene, NH--the 56th Transition Initiative in the United States and the 1st in the state of New Hampshire. He currently serves as the editor of the Keene Transition Movement Community Website and Blog, as well as a co-coordinator of the online Quakers in Transition project sponsored by the Earthcare Ministries Committee of the New England Yearly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends. In Keene, Steve is on the advisory board of the Monadnock Buy Local business association and is an active member of the Transition Tuesdays Work Group, which organizes a monthly series of films, speakers, and community conversations about how to face the challenges of peak oil, climate change, and economic crises with courage, creativity, and a positive transition vision.

Besides giving Transition talks and leading introductory Transition workshops at colleges, faith groups, and community centers as a member of the Transition US Speakers Bureau, Steve is also a trained facilitator of the Awakening the Dreamer Symposium and has adapted this powerful awareness raising tool for Quakers, other people of faith, and audiences interested in the Transition movement. He is the author of the article, "Taking the Initiative: Why ATD Symposium Participants Should Consider Joining The Transition Movement," which is available as a free download from this Transition US-ATD alliance website. Steve has also received training to deliver popular education workshops on behalf of United for a Fair Economy and the Human Rights Educational Association. He hopes to one day become a Transition US certified "Training For Transition" facilitator, but he has not yet accomplished that goal. Still, he's busy enough as it is!
