About Rita Couto
My name is Rita Couto and I moved from Brazil to the U.S. in 2007. I'm a Brazilian lawyer that discovered a deep passion for the studies and practices of sustainable development. In 2009 I started a process of self-discovery and inner transition that took me to a journey of awareness and consciousness. I saw myself as a co-agent of the environmental degradation our planet and all living beings have been suffering for the last six decades. I made a decision to seek understanding and education about our planet's current issues. That decision took me to my currently status as a student of Sustainable Development at the University of Massachusetts. It was during the 2011 Bioneers' event Connecting for Change in New Bedford that I first heard the expression Transition Towns. The passion and urgency of the movement confirmed that I had finally found my mission. Next thing was the purchase of The Transition Handbook. I live in Dartmouth, MA and I'm currently seeking other individuals in my community interested in a Transition Initiative.
