About Marlon Davis

Every step I take now is toward a more gentle and passionate life.

I have had the fortunate luck to have studied a subject I really liked- medieval studies. Armed with the ability to  read Latin, I of course moved into a totally unrelated occupation- community organizing. At the moment I am a Manager for Student Life at a local university. While I enjoy this very much, the best part of my day is spent at home in my neighbourhood in West Central Edmonton. My husband and I returned in 2009 from Dublin, Ireland where we had been involved in Transition Towns there and now look forward to using the model in our own community back in Edmonton.

Now we work with a small Transition project in our community league and also with a city -wide team to see what support we can offer to other TT projects in the the capital region. We are keen to get to know our city again and are regular participants with Edmonton Permaculture, ESAGE events, Edmonton Federation of Community League activities and much more. I am delighted to have met such wonderful people again, in such short a time. I am now sitting on the strategic planning committee for the city's "The Way We Green" and hope in speak for Transition and League values while working with this team.

In an attempt to broaden my knowledge beyond medieval literature (kind of joking), I am taking the Master Organic Gardening Course in Stoney Plain to try my hand in the soil. I love being outdoors and out of the office - this course is teaching me so much. I hope to use this re-skilling opportunity to help guide the community garden project starting in Grovenor league.  I try to take advantage of as many re-skilling opportunities as are available and affordable in the city: Planning Academy (Urban Design and Planning with the City), John Humphrey Human Rights Facilitator Course, and will be taking my Permaculture Design Certificate Soon.

With my family, we are looking foward to moving toward starting our own small business in the years to come but are open to what opportunities arise. For now, I am enjoying the garden and my community.  My spare time is spent with family, and right now, with helping resource other communities in their Transition initiatives.
