Eco Treedweller

As a long-term Womble, I have been keenly reusing and recyling and holding an interest in all things 'off-grid'.

Known locally as 'Eco', I became involved with Transition Norwich late 2008, particularly the Heart & Soul group, and helped to introduce a new group for Reskilling.  Sustainability became the buzz-word for life at that time, and I have continued to raise awareness on the issues surrounding climate change.  I attended the First Regional Transition gathering in Downham Market (7th March '09), and was fortunate enough (via Transition Norwich) to see The Age of Stupid when it premiered at Cinema City, Norwich.

I have written as a Guest Blogger on the Transition Norwich blog which I follow regularly.  The Transition journey has been fun, difficult, interesting, and is ongoing.  In the beginnings of Transition Norwich (2008) I felt very good about the changes I was making, the world was changing as a result of my awakening, how powerful we are!  This is true to some extent, but I didn't realise how much further I had to go before I moved away from that little tip of the eco-iceburg!

With social and community interests in mind I was fortunate enough to be made redundant from my work in Mental Health/Employment, and went on to turn my hobby into an environmental Community Interest Company called Wombling CIC.  I now have plans to run a series of reskilling workshops in the Norwich area, but in the meantime I am allowing my creativity full flow in the recycling of old socks and other fabrics into new creations, largely animals and monsters.  Every month I, under the name Thorsten Creates, have a stall at local craft fayres where these are available for sale.  Oh, I also run Sock Monkey-making workshops!
