Transition activities
About David Lyons
I am a career railwayman having started as a signalman in Devon in the mid eighties. At that time I was a keen motor biker but eventually gave it up due to cost. I have never owned a car, though I do drive occasionally.
I have been concerned about energy and transport for 10-15 years, being a cycle activits and critical masser...and latterly World Nake Bike ride. I discovered transition 3 years ago when I picked up the Transition Handbook while visiting the Eden Project in Cornwall and started what was then T Thame & District by putting flyers on bikes at the station and making contacts through FOE.
Like many others I have felt concern about climate change but relatively powerless to do anything about it, but peak oil (and peak other resources) and the transition concept has energised me and others in my village to do something about it.
My main attributes are enthusiasm and persistence (tho as with everyone this ebbs and flows!). My paid employment involves developing enhancements to the railway network, the attributes above seem to have made up for my lack of formal qualifications!
Being engaged in transition has motivated me to finally take the plunge and get an allotment...tho I struggle to keep it up...with fruit bush planting and mulching with cardboard with occasional additions of my 'daily special preparation' (PNP). I am hoping to major on perenials so that I don't have to think to much about what to plant!
Can't think of much more to say...except that I am very pleased that my Mum is involved with Transition Plymouth and is currently treasurer. Hello Mum!
Dave
