About David English
30 year old Mental Health Nurse. Came across the concept of peak oil first in 2007 from watching George Lee's Oil Shock documentary on Irish tv RTE 1, passed it off as interesting but just considered it another shock series. Then saw a documentary movie Crude Awakening while living in Australia in 2008 and considered it more but put it out of my head as quick. On a return from Australia in 2008 my brother was quite preoccupied with it and encouraged me to read about it more. I joined the Green Party Ireland in august 2009 were I came into contact with others who were concerned with peak oil and wider environmental concerns. I've read extensively with some distress even at times. Thankfully we came across Transition which was a positive framework for taking some action.
My brother and a few from the Greens decided to start a Transition initiative in November 2009. We have had success and failures all trial and error, but it now really seems to be gaining momentum. We hope to renovate a deralict orchard /community gardens this year as a CSA. We have a monthly market, a cool website, and 160 on our email list and alot of passive community support with more people willing coming forward to get involved for many different reasons.
