Transition Training in Colombia

The first Training for Transition have been delivered in Colombia by Mauricio Deliz, a Chilian living in Norway.

He reports

In the first course, in Bogota , It was more people from the Permaculture and Ecovillage movement, and activists in different fields.

In the second, In University of Santo Tomas, it was with many academic peoples and some leaders of different ONGs.

The third, in Santa Marta in the Caribbean area, it was with activists working with Hippy-Kogi indigenous people. It is a region with a lot of need of new ideas and a difficult place to work because the internal conflict.

II learned a lot about delivering the Transition Town methodology because the very different cultural reality of Colombia .

Some general considerations are:

- To be careful.

- It very difficult to trust a lot of local authorities.

- It should be a course for leaders.

- The priorities in the slums are complete different.

- Difficult to see in very rural areas

My position was that I am sharing with them something coming from a group of good people with the best intentions. But that they have to be aware about the very different cultural setting and look at this careful and see how they can do their contribution to improve the Transition Town concept in their reality.

Anyway, the people like the course very much, they were moved by the inner work and these courses created good will towards making a Transition Movement in Colombia . The time will see what will happen.

Personally, I am very happy to have the opportunity to make my little contribution to the Transition movement bringing these ideas to Latin-America.

Mauricio
