Food Hub database system available for free
The Stroudco Food Hub have been working away at connecting local people with local food for many years now, and have a great track record of producing and distributing great food.
As well as doing the food thing, they are champions at sharing what they are learning, as you can see from their project profile, featured videos, and representations in our 'patterns' to date.
Now they are giving away the software that underpins their system for nothing to other food co-ops who could use it...
Please read the information below and you can download the form below from this news item. It sounds like a great offer to us - here's some more information:
We are very pleased to let you know that the Stroudco Food Hub database system has now developed to a stage where we are happy to offer it to other groups to take on. The software is available free of charge on an open source basis.
If you would like to download the system, please first fill in your answers to all the questions (attached) and send the form back to info@stroudco.org.uk We will use the details you give us to keep track of who is using the software so that we can all benefit from any updates or changes that any of us make.
Please note that Stroudco is making this software available to organisations/groups who will use it to set up not-for-profit social enterprises. Stroudco currently has no budget or resources to provide technical support to other organisations/groups in using this system and no budget or resources to adapt the software for other organisations/groups. However, we are looking for funding to run a training session for people wanting to use the Stroudco system. Please let us know if you are interested in this.
We would like all organisations/groups that use the Stroudco system to give us a regular update (at least once per year) on how they are using it and any updates they have made to the system.

Summary of functionality?
8 December 2010 - 10:56am — Paul MackayIs there any summary of the functionality the software provides? Is it the website or modules to add to another website?

Functionality

Stroudco Food Hub are offering a php application that runs on a web server to support a local food distribution hub. The food hub consolidates orders for specific distribution days where pre-ordered produce is delivered by suppliers, packed by volunteers and collected by consumers.
The full order cycle has an ordering period, a cut off date, notification of suppliers (usually 2 days before delivery to the hub) and distribution day.
This software provides the framework for producers to add products and availability, for consumers to order produce for the next distribution day and back end processing to allow the hub administrator to collate multiple consumer orders into single single purchase orders for suppliers. Distribution day processing to handle delivery, sorting, invoicing and statements.

Sounds really useful
23 December 2010 - 4:17pm — Gary AlexanderHere in Diss, Norfolk, we are in the early stages of planning a CSA, perhaps as a hub with other providers included too. We haven't got as far in our thinking as the practicalities of collating and combining orders, but I suspect that when we do, we might find that your software is exactly what we need.
We'll probably get back to you later, and I do take seriously the point that you are not in a position to offer technical support.
Thanks so much for doing this and making it public.
Gary

This sounds really
20 December 2010 - 10:20pm — Jonathan Melhuish (not verified)This sounds really interesting but yeah, we could really do with some more information on what this software does and, ideally, a demo version we can play with. If anybody has the time to sort that, it would be most appreciated :)

Matlock Local Food Hub
7 January 2011 - 10:25pm — Helen CunninghamHi all
We at Transition Matlock have already had access to this software from StroudCo and are getting to grips with it as i type.
We are setting up a Local Food Hub along the lines of Stroud's and ours has developed out of our existing Community Supported Agriculture project which is listed on the projects pages here.
I will put up details of our Local Food hub project as soon as it goes live....
Thanks to all at StroudCo for their ongoing help.
Helen

Supplier data
21 February 2012 - 10:48pm — dazdreadHi Nick,
A little behind the curve here and ahead of the curve as we do not have server space as yet but a question for you. Is there an option to import product lists if for instance we deal with a couple of whole food co-operatives as our buying group does.
Darren
