About
We are a relatively new but enthuisiatic initiative who meet once a month at the Boardroom in Wilmslow. In 2011 we primarily concentrated on raising awareness by holding a number of film nights in the local library and going out to speak to other local community groups. We created links with Cycle Wilmslow by holding the Wilmslow Big Family Bike Ride in September from the Artisan Market. Cycle Wilmslow led the bike ride around Mobberley along with British National Champion Pro Motorpoint cyclist Hannah Walker. The ride was a big success and we're planning on organising more rides in the Spring. In December we planted our first orchard in Wilmslow at Gravel Lane Park, and we have plans to plant more trees in Meriton Road Park in Handforth early in 2012. We've also been working very closely with Incredible Edible Wilmslow on their planters around the town. Our Energy group is busy planning an energy campaign in 2012 to highlight the importance of Energy effiency in our homes. They're looking to use thermal imaging cameras around the town to show heat loss and provide information about Energy saving measures in line with the Green Deal. They're also talking to the local churches and schools about undertaking Energy audits on their buildings. We've also held lots of fun and social events, including our recent "Swishing" clothes swap party, a pot luck supper, coffee mornings and a seed swap. We're planning on stepping up a level in 2012 and are keen to apply for Official Transition town status.
