About

NB: After a sucessful first year, Transition University of Gloucestershire is on hold pending the establishment of a new steering group.

Transition University of Gloucestershire aims to involve staff and students in the transition of the towns where the university is based (Cheltenham and Gloucester). The focus is on the towns rather than university campuses in isolation because transition is rooted in place-based communities, while university students and staff tend to be transient or live elsewhere. Through contributing to the local transition initiative, staff and students can gain knowledge and transition skills that they can later apply to the communities they are part of. Transition University provides an email list and website to inform staff and students about the many opportunities for getting involved in local transition initiatives - events, workshops, meetings, courses and working groups. It helps set up voluntary placements for students in Transition Town initiatives so they can gain awards for their records of achievement or fulfil course requirements for work experience. It hosts events that bring local people into the university to work on transition activities with staff and students. It also hosts smaller, social events for Transition University members to discuss issues related more directly with the university. All staff and students are invited to join Transition University - doing so means that you will get occasional emails about activities and opportunities and invitations to social events.
