About

Salt Spring Island, British Columbia is the largest and most populous of the Southern Gulf Islands situated between Vancouver Island and the Mainland. In a north - south direction Salt Spring Island is about half way between Nanaimo and Victoria, the capital city of BC. The population is approximately  10,000. Nearby islands on the Canadian side of the 49th parallel are: Galiano, Mayne, Pender (North & South), Prevost and Saturna being the larger ones. To the south east and on the U.S. side of the border lie the San Juan Islands in Washington State.

Transition Salt Spring is a local group within the Salt Spring community, committed to working together with all existing groups to address the urgent and critical issues of global climate change and declining fossil fuel supplies. Climate change makes carbon reduction essential and peak oil makes it inevitable. Transition Salt Spring is part of a large and growing international network
