About
The North Howe Transition Toun is a community led group working towards building community resilience in the light of the twin challenges of Fossil Fuel Depletion and Climate Change. We started out in 2007 as a group of like-minded individuals wanting to make a difference. In March 2008 the North Howe Transition Toun was born.
Now, with financial support from the Climate Challenge Fund, we are looking at key areas around Energy, Transport and Food. We are part of a growing global network of Transition Town Initiatives with more than 100 now throughout the UK and over 200 worldwide.
Our NHTT Area takes in the communities of Letham, Monimail, Bow of Fife, Collessie, Giffordtown and Charlottetown. The Transition Movement was started in Ireland where Rob Hopkins who was a teacher in Permaculture and natural building. Transition Totnes became a model for a positive community response to the problems posed by Peak Oil and Climate Change. Governments are slowly beginning to address these issues but their implications are so enormous that action is needed on all levels. Transition is not just about reducing our greenhouse gas emissions, but is about rebuilding a localised independence with regards to our basic need for living: food, water and energy.
