About

Nambour is a town of approximately 13,000 residents in the Sunshine Coast hinterland in South East Queensland. There is a real interest in sustainable living and Transition.

The area was a productive cane sugar , small dairy and small fruit and subtropical fruit crop area which could supply Brisbane ( Queensland State capital) by train and road, although much of the land has now been subdivided into smaller acreage residential blocks. The area has a  fast growing population and benefits from fertile soil, a high rain fall ( approx. 1.5 m pa) and plenty of all year round sunshine. The land is mainly rolling, small hill country with State Forests and National Parks ands many outstanding natural features of great beauty (eg Blackall Range & Glass House Mountains).

The climate is subtropical and Nambour could benefit from re-introducing small crop farming on many of the smaller blocks to achieve greater bio-security.

Nambour benefits from being the main shopping town in the hinterland area with several main banks, a busy hospital, a large library,4 high schools, local government offices and many active community organisations. Economically Nambour suffered with the motorway by-pass which had brought many travellers through the town and the closure of the cane mill in town   although this has largely been counterbalanced by the development of the main shopping mall servicing the town and many surrounding areas.
