About

TINWOLF was created in 2008 as one of several groups covering different localities in Leeds, along with an umbrella group (Transition City Leeds) with a hub-group intended to co-ordinate/support initiatives around the city. Since then, the city-wide group has fallen into disuse, although it still exists as an email list for disseminating information about events related to sustainability.

TINWOLF covers roughly the area designated by the local authority as Inner North-West Leeds - that is, Hyde Park, Woodhouse, Headingley, Burley, Little London and parts of Meanwood and Kirkstall. However, our activities have extended beyond that boundary, and have included acting as a point for dissemination of information about transition-related projects and events across the city. We have links with Transition Leeds Universtity, and with other student groups concerned with sustainability issues (eg Green Action, People and Planet). We also have links with the more recently formed Transition Meanwood, with REAP (Roundhay Environmental Action Project) and PuLSE (Pudsey Land Share Enterprises).

TINWOLF is not currently meeting regularly as a group. However, our members are involved in a range of transition-type projects in the city, including Edible Public Space, Hyde Park Neighbourhood Food-growing Project, Headingley Community Orchard, and a new city-wide initiative to create an interactive map of groups, projects, campaigns and resources relevant to social justice and sustainability (Leeds Mapping Project). We also have links with several groups concerned with domestic energy conservation and fuel poverty, and are seeking to promote educational and practical work in that field. Several of our members are also active in the local Occupy movement. We continue to function as a port of call for individuals seeking to find out about groups and projects active in the area and the city, and will try to help with any inquiries.
