About

Lampeter Transition Initiative is named "Transition Llambed", a combination of the English word 'Transition' and the colloquialism  'Llambed' from the Welsh for Lampeter - Llanbedr Pont Stefan.

We are currently working with an RDP grant to raise awareness of the issues around climate change and peak oil and to raise the profile of Transition Llambed with the ultimate aim of writing an Energy Descent Action Plan. Under this grant we cover four wards - Lampeter, Llangybi, Llanfihangel Ystrad and Llanwenog but don't really see our Transition Initiatives as having boundaries.... This RDP project is being carried out with two other community organisations- Menter Llambed and Ymlaen Ceredigion.

We have held film & discussion nights, open space meetings, clothes swaps, energy advice days, workshops including Green Woodworking, Consensus Decision Making, Enhancing Listening Skills, Maintaining Motivation for Change, etc. and are planning more practical skills-based workshops. We have also started to have skill-sharing meetings to put people in touch with others who have skills to share and / or want to learn new skills. A textiles group who meet regularly to learn spinning, weaving, knitting, rag-rug making and more from each other has grown up out of this.

Some members have set up a Transition Llambed Social Enterprise in order to get the legal status needed to apply for further grants and with the intention of taking over the running of a local, under-used and run-down community hall.

We welcome all new members and are pleased to still be attracting a slow trickle of interest after an initial surge at the beginning. However, we (as I'm sure is the case for most Initiatives?) could always do with more volunteers to help with ideas, visions, organisation, admin and so on.
