About

At this point, Knoxville Transition has one presentation event scheduled and two very likely ones pending.

Knoxville, Tennessee is one of 25 American Solar Cities, and will have the second solar-powered bus terminal in the country this summer. It has an active city Office of Sustainability. It has several community gardens and has a central community organization to initiate and coordinate more of them. A bill to legalize backyard chickens is pending. So, Knoxville has some progressive infrastructure to which Transition Towns can connect.

Knoxville is about twenty miles away from Oak Ridge National Labs, a major research center. Unfortunately, it is also about the same distance from the Kingston coal ash spill, a sobering reminder of why we have to deal with the reality upon us.
