About

A small group of us – all local residents – came together in the autumn of 2009 to form Holmfirth Transition Town Initiative (HoTT), and we held our first public meeting in February 2010. Our approach is positive and enjoyable, and over the last two years we have run a number of successful public events. Our numbers are growing, and we are keen for others to join us.

HoTT operates in the Yorkshire town of Holmfirth and surrounding villages, located a few miles south of Huddersfield amidst the Pennine hills. Holmfirth is a former wool town and is known to many people as the setting for the Last of the Summer Wine TV series. While our focus is within the Holme Valley South Ward of Kirklees Council, we are pleased to welcome people living in nearby communities.

HoTT is an unincorporated voluntary body, and we run in an informal and democratic way through a management group that meets bi-monthly - this is open to all.

In addition to the management group, HoTT has four working groups. These groups meet regularly and are open to new participants – so do come along!

Our Energy Group (energy@hott.org.uk) was set up to reduce the use of energy in our homes and businesses and to promote use of local, sustainable, energy generating technologies.

The Transport Group (transport@hott.org.uk) has the overall aim of reducing greenhouse gases emitted through travel and preparing for a future when oil will be less available and more expensive (peak oil).

A new Sustainable Consumers Group (sustainable@hott.org.uk) is addressing how we can make ethical choices, share skills and work together to save money, live more sustainably and strengthen our community.

The Reading Group (reading@hott.org.uk) meets every month to discuss literature and other media concerned with climate change and sustainability.
