About

Hebden Bridge Transition Town is about facing up to the challenges of Peak Oil and Climate Change and coming together as a community to make a long term plan of how to make our town and the surrounding areas sustainable.

We think that if the plan is going to work then it needs to come from the community, businesses and groups that it affects.

The big launch of Hebden Bridge Transition Town happened in May 2010.

We are looking at ways in which we can rebuild the resilience we have lost as a result of cheap oil, and can reduce the community's carbon emissions. We are building on the existing efforts and networks already in existence, and initiating new practical projects that work towards these aims.

We believe this is the key to making our community sustainable, any plan, if its to work, should come from the people it effects. By working together in this way we can focus on areas that we are interested in or have particular skills in, safe in the knowledge that there are other groups in our community working on all of the other parts of the plan.

The scale of what needs to be done means that there is room for everybody, if you only have half an hour a week there will still be lots you can join in with, so do get in touch and get involved in shaping your future.
