About
Transition Durham is co-ordinated by a Hub group drawn from its around 300 members. We link to and support Durham-based projects in Food, Renewable Energy, and Economics, including the Durham Local Food Network, Fruitful Durham, Local Food Website Team and Dunelm Community Renewables, both independently and in partnership with local groups like Alington House Community Association, Climate Durham, Friends of Flass Vale, Durham Exchange, Jam Jah, Empty Shop CIC, Northern Community Power CIC, Tagpassiton, and regional groups like the North East Permaculture Network and North East Transition Town Activists Network. Our research group has active links with Durham University, including the Durham Energy Insitute's Programme for Resilient Low Carbon Communities, the Centre for Social Justice and Community Action, and the Policy Research Group at St. Chad's College, and building on previous projects is developing a broad consortium of university-based researchers to help develop. The Economics and Livelihoods group is a participant in the first phase of the national Reconomy project on links between Transition and Social Enterprise, and is collaborating with Alington House in setting up a 'social enterprise incubator' from a dedicated office space in the heart of Durham City Centre. We have recently set up a new task group in Travel and Transport.
