Downham & Villages in Transition
Address
About
We kicked off about 18 months ago and have a fantastic group of people on the ground already. We have made links with the local press, the Council, local food growers and distributors, local schools and our sister Transition groups in Kings Lynn and Ely.
We started with small film nights in village halls, which helped grow our numbers and our profile. We also spent a lot of time in our first year holding info stalls at fetes and on the market place. Our first major public event was a screening of The Age of Stupid in the Town Hall - 120 people through the door for that one! The next big event was called "Our Food, Our Future" (OFOF) and we had exhibits, information, local food producers, a local food cafe, a kids area and a talk by Bob Flowerdew. It was an enormous success with over 300 people attending.
On the back of this, we got grant funding to take OFOF on the road and do smaller events in the villages around our market town. Another strand of the funding allowed us to set up and run a full Permaculture Design Course over this year.
We have just got a media group going (Rachel is phenomenal!) and our Energy group is getting underway. We have forged some wonderful new friendships and deepened existing ones as the community work moves forward. Lots to do yet, so welcome to anyone in the area who wants to get involved.
