About

Transition Town Clitheroe started in July 2009. We became official in December 2009.

The Core Coordinating Group meets about once a month.

Green drinks evenings are held on the first Friday of the month at the New Inn, Parson Lane, Clitheroe. If you are in the area, come and meet us and listen to some great jamming from local musicians!

Ongoing activities include, yearly edible tree plantings, awareness raising events (e.g. film showings, world cafes, general presence at local events), community owned apple press rental, seed swap events at the Clitheroe Library, shared harvest meals (Jacob's Join).

Our Transport theme group is coordinated by Chris Gathercole. Our aim is to make Clitheroe pedestrian and cycle friendly. The first transport project is to get cycle stands in the town centre. These are scheduled to appear over the next few months by arrangement with Lancashire County Council.

The Energy theme group, is working with the Ribble Valley Strategic Partnership and the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty to explore possibilities for hydro power in Clitheroe and the surrounding area.

Grateful acknowledgement is made to the Forest of Bowland AONB for their funding support in raising awareness about peak oil, climate change and our transition initiative.
