Banff Castle Community Association

Banff Castle Community Association was established in 1951 and has been a venue for community group activities ever since. Over the past 18 months with the introduction of new committee members there has been a raised awareness of our place and development within the community. Having been awarded a grant from the Climate Challenge Fund we decided to follow the transition initiative model into a more localised, energy reduced future.

The Climate Challenge Fund will last until March 2011, during which time we shall insulate our roof (it's a big one, check out our website www.banffcastle.org.uk) and secondary glaze all our georgian windows (there are a lot of them and they are big too). As part of the awareness raising/behaviour changing element of this project we are going to run a series of re-skilling workshops over the winter which will culminate in a Trash to Fashion Show for the annual Arts Festival which takes place in May.  For the writers in the community we shall run a short story competition with a climate change/year 2071 theme, with a short list being published in an anthology.

We also have our West Pavilion development which will incorporate renewable energy - if all goes well we should have a previously unused building up and running by autumn 2011.
