Dear fellow Web Transitioners

A great, free, Open Source Application Framework for Crowdmapping and Geo reporting can be deployed @ http://crowdmap.com/
The free service installs the Ushahidi platform developed in Kenia  http://www.ushahidi.com/products/ushahidi-platform

In our initiative we use Crowdmapping to map sustainable development in our region and - at the same time - to create a "Green Directory". See http://witzenhausen.crowdmap.com/

One big plus of the Ushahidi Framework are the multiple ways to submit "Geo Reports": Web, SMS, eMail, Twitter and fantastic, free mobile apps for iPhones and Android

iOS: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ushahidi-ios/id410609585?mt=8
Android: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.ushahidi.android.app&feature=search_result

Happy Mapping
André, TT Witzenhausen, Germany

Thanks for sharing, André! That's a lovely app idd, but would it not be a better idea to have one such map for all transition, permaculture and any related initiatives word wide?

While the Google map overview on this website here is great, a crowdmap could be more 'alive'. I've created one per test at https://onewhole.crowdmap.com/

It is very likely that we will use it within our new project at http://onewhole.eu (still under construction). One of our aims is to improve networking between transition, permaculture and like-minded initiatives, another one is to create a, or to contribute to an existing, database or wiki with the purpose of regrouping as much info and practical tips as possible in one easily searchable database. An active crowdmap sure would add value to this initiative.

My biggest doubt is that it may be quasi impossible to motivate enough people in using it.

Could such initiative count on the Transition Network's support?

Would you know if it is possible to link one crowdmap to another? If I'd f.ex. add the rss-feed of your crowdmap, would your reports be visible on the OneWhole crowdmap?

Thanks in advance for all input!

You must use powerful words and emotional triggers. Eliminate boring adverbs and dangling modifiers as much as you can. Use active verbs http://www.australianwritings.com/essay-help/ instead of helping verbs or adjectives. Active verbs make your writing to be more alive and dynamic. Realize that movement generates pleasure. Use active voice rather than passive voice.

Somewhat of a thread ressurrection.

I work with Transition Shetland, and we are looking into providing a method for finding/spreading transition related information in our area and I found this post.

I have looked at the ushahidi platform, and it does seem to be targeted to real time information, disaster mapping. which requires a different makeup than a more longterm/static requirement, that would be useful for a transition application.

I am a coder who is familiar with all the technology used in the platform (Apache, PHP, MySQL). and am currently looking at the possibility of using this platorm for the task.

I will probably set up a server to play with the platform and check out it's capabilities, If we do use it I would like to adapt it to be more suitable for the task.

Has anyone used this or some other framework?
I would like to know, I have been looking but found nothing as close.

Would anyone else like to get in on this?
I am capable of working with the technical aspects of this work but it would be a shame to do all of this work and not provide it to a wider audence, so if anyone else would thinks this is a good idea and would like to give some input, or are already working on something like this, I would like to hear from you.

I am currently looking into the requirements of the system, and what we believe its purpose or best use would be, I will also post it here when I have it ready.

I'd suggest people look at using Open Street Map rather than Google for mapping things, from the Wikipedia entry:

OpenStreetMap (OSM) is a collaborative project to create a free editable map of the world. Two major driving forces behind the establishment and growth of OSM have been restrictions on use or availability of map information across much of the world and the advent of inexpensive portable Satellite navigation devices.

uccessful mobile apps actually gain popularity and revenue from users. You can expect many people to use your apps, especially if your application is unique and rich in features and functions. Once you have thousands of users, you can start upgrading and offering your app at a price. personal statement essay

I have had a little play with the Ushahidi system and setup a demo site anyone interested can have a look here

http://ushahidi.ketset.net/
THIS IS A DEMO SITE. IT MAY DISSAPEAR AT ANY MOMENT!

There are some fundimental differences with the Ushahidi system and where I feel a system for our need should go. So I may be doing some deep editing with the system above, to see how far I can bend it to our needs.

Investing on mobile application development means that the company is able to cope up with the latest market trends, and is able to take advantage of the fact that the consumers intensively use mobile apps. android malware removal

The reason that you will want to learn how to quickly swap apps using the quick task bar at the bottom is to save you time searching through every app that you have installed. You can use the search bar but if it is an app you use daily it is far quicker to use the quick task bar at the bottom. http://www.rushmyessay.com/essay/
