From the UK Environment Agency website...

"From 1 October 2011, we are taking on a new role as the Government’s delivery body for climate change adaptation in England. This role will build on the work of the UK Climate Impacts Programme (UKCIP), based at Oxford University. The Environment Agency is already one of the leading public bodies in preparing for climate change.  Our new programme will complement our existing roles and responsibilities and is being developed closely with the cross-Government Adapting to Climate Change Programme."

"This programme consists of:

  • a web-based information service will give you access to the latest climate science and provide tools and advice to help you plan for climate change
  • tailored support to help key sectors build resilience to climate change. We’ll be focussing on six themes: business and economy, infrastructure, built environment, health and wellbeing, natural environment and local government"

"We want to work with others to design a programme that reflects what customers need.  We are asking the views of customers, partners and government departments to help inform the programme.  We will use this information to:

  • shape our online information service and ensure a smooth transition from the existing service
  • scope more sectoral specific support

The full programme will be in place by April 2012.  In the meantime, we are working closely with UKCIP to ensure that existing services continue to be available."
