What got you interested in environmental issues?

Hi all!

So I am currently writing an MA thesis on TT's and the importance of community-building for sustainability. While having completed my research, I was just very interested in exploring what drew you all to transition in the first place. 

There has been a lot of research into what attitudes lead to pro-environmental behaviour, but there's still a huge gap in understanding why people have these attitudes in the first place. This is what got me thinking that it would be interesting to see where all of you guys got your inspiration and what influenced your own environmental values.

As I am also very fond of the Transition Network and hopefully can join a TT some day, I too have been influenced throughout my life in caring about what we do to our environment. I guess in my case, it is something I have been concerned about since I was a child, which has influenced me throughout my life. I grew up close to unspoiled nature and spent a lot of time playing on the beach, and in forests. My brother and I spent a lot of time in farms and picking berries. I think this must have had a lot to do with how I connected to my habitat and animals, and I now have a strong sentiment towards them. So I suppose I have a feeling that it might have something to do with environmental experiences as a child, but I can also see how some people might be more aware of the environment because of first hand accounts of environmental degradation for example.

Anyway, the floor is yours! I thought this would be a great place for anyone who wants to share their stories and memories too!  

Even if you just want to share in just one line, it would be nice to explore what we all think. Who knows, it might just help us grow.
