Details

This 2-day Transition THRIVE course will run on the two days directly before the Transition Network conference. We've designed this particular instance of the course to be flexibly integrated with the other conference events so that you can choose the learning experience that works best for you. This advanced training course will help you to sustain momentum both in your Transition Initiative and also at a personal level. It's packed with ideas and inspiration to help you move your Transition Initiative to the next level. (See below for training details).

At the conference, the THRIVE course will intertwine with the REconomy giving the following choice for course participants:

  • day 1: Transition THRIVE
  • day 2: either second day of THRIVE course or REconomy day. There will be an integration session on Sunday of the conference to help you to integrate what you have learnt from the course with the aim to build an action plan to take you forward. TRAINING DETAILS

This is an advanced training, and as such we expect to be able to work with participants on a deeper level; we want to travel far in these two days together. Participants should be comfortable with applying themselves to experiential exercises, as well be grounded in the fundamentals of the Transition model. We expect participants to come with questions, problems, and issues that have arisen in their Transition Initiative whether in terms of group process, problems with funding, or practical projects that are difficult to go forward with. Or it may be simply that you are looking for the next steps! This will be a training for experienced Transitioners to learn together.

Day 1

We begin with a look at why we are doing Transition, both the context in which we find ourselves, and our personal motivations. We will learn about how and why expressing gratitude can form a powerful and creative bond amongst those in a Transition Initiative. We then use our diagnostic tool to determine how your Transition Initiative is working in the crucial first phases. This in turn informs what areas we need to place most emphasis on for the rest of the course. We will look at some innovative ways to use vision in our work. We then go onto a a personal resilience exercise using our best experience in engagement with difficult issues to challenge ourselves in our personal Transition. There will probably be a section on leadership.

Day 2

This day starts with a reflection on positive psychology, and why this is so important to our work in Transition and how to use these insights to create the world we want. We then return to personal resilience and do a session on burnout- and how to avoid it or work with what comes up as a result. We then shift gears somewhat to look at the REconomy project and how enterprise can shape our transition initiatives and start to put in place the practical, essential pieces of a relocalised economy. We then  use open space or world cafe, both to teach these powerful methods of community engagement, as well as to satisfy multiple needs for ways forward and next steps. We then do some work with integrating all that you have learned to create a workable action plan to take back to your community. This last piece will also be offered on Sunday morning of the conference, so that you can integrate both the work you have done on Thrive and the conference learnings.

The Training will be run by Naresh Giangrande, co-founder of Transition Town Totnes and Transition Training, and Mandy Dean from Transition Bro Ddyfi.
