Energy Resilience Assessment Practitioner Training Course

The next Energy Resilience Assessment practitioner training course will likely be in Spring 2010. Please email Fiona Ward to be kept informed.

Please see the document attached to this page for much more information about this ERA course and the application process.

This page is for all fellow-transitioners who might be interested in bringing transition thinking to our local businesses, public sector and voluntary organisations.

Initially, this course is focussed on England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland. In time, and with international input, we'll develop international versions.

Transition Training & Consulting (part of Transition Network, and incorporating what was previously known as Transition Training) already offers training to individuals and communities - many of you will have attended the Training for Transition 2 day course.

Now we're starting to offer transition-related services for businesses and other organisations. These offerings will be delivered by the TT&C Practitioner Network, a community of trainers and consultants ideally based in local transition initiatives, who work in a professional, commercial capacity.

How you can get involved?

Entry to the TT&C Practitioner Network is only through a practitioner training or train-the-trainer course.

There is a clearly-defined, transparent application process that sets criteria for acceptance onto a course, and then sign-off on successful course completion. This objective assessment process is essential if TT&C is to ensure that the practitioners working with organisations, communities and individuals have the appropriate skills to ensure the attendees’/clients’ satisfaction, and to work within their own comfort zone (or possibly just at the edge of it!).

The first offering aimed specifically at businesses and other organisations is the Energy Resilience Assessment (ERA). The first 2 day ERA Practitioner Training Course was held in October, 2009 in Devon.

Please see the attached document for much more information about this ERA course and the application process.

We strongly recommend that you co-ordinate with others in your transition initiative about local representation in the TT&C Practitioner Network.

How can you find out more about TT&C?

TT&C is organised according to its two main audiences:

(1) individuals and communities - served by TT&C(ind)

(2) businesses and organisations - served by TT&C(orgs).

To find out more about TT&C(orgs), take a look at the "About TT&C(orgs) – July 2009" document which is attached to this page. This document was presented at the Transition Network conference in May 2009 in London, and has since been updated. Be warned - it’s quite a long document, covering a wide range of potential questions.

Why are we working with businesses and organisations?

Building resilience among individuals and communities is only half the story of meeting the challenges of peak oil and climate change. Organisations, whether they are in the public, private or third/voluntary sectors, are no more than groups of people working together in pursuit of a particular purpose. They are located within, and interact directly with, our local communities. We might not always completely agree with their purpose or how they go about achieving it today, but we believe their taking up the transition model is vital for all of our tomorrows.

We believe that they need to find their own paths to a resilient future, and soon... and that we can help them.

We are aware that not everyone in the transition movement shares this perspective particularly with regard to working with larger commercial businesses. There’s a more detailed reasoning for our decision, and a new discussion space on the Transition Network forum where you can participate in this debate if you wish.

A learning organisation

Interest level is hard to gauge since this is the first time we're offering this training and the invitation is going out to a very wide audience. We'll schedule others courses in other locations per the actual demand.

Please bear with us as we pilot this process and learn much as we go about how/how not to do it. We'll respond to any questions as soon as possible, it just might take some time so thanks for your patience.

If you are interested in being kept informed of future TT&C(orgs) offerings and general updates, then please contact Fiona Ward.

Feel free to forward this information to anyone else in the transition movement who may be interested in TT&C, or in joining us.
